About The Author
Allan L. Beane, Ph.D., a former classroom teacher, is a nationally
recognized expert, speaker, and author on bullying, as well
as a nationally renowned consultant and educator. He has 30
years of experience in education that includes teaching special
education, teaching regular education (speech and debate),
teaching in higher education, serving two (2) years as Director
of a School Safety Center, authoring over 30 published articles,
two (2) book chapters, and a book. He has served as an expert
witness in criminal cases involving bullying and has been
an expert guest for Fox News in Chicago. He currently serves
as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Mid-Continent
University, a 4-year Christian college, and he is an ordained
minister.
A dynamic and highly sought-after speaker, he has presented
keynote addresses, presentations, and workshops to school districts,
organizations, colleges, students, and parents throughout the
United States. His down-to-earth speaking style, inspirational
stories, and practical strategies appeal to audiences everywhere.
Dr. Beane has been studying bullying for 23 years. His son
was bullied in 7 th grade and high school. Bullying
contributed to his son dying at the age of 23. His son’s
life inspired him to write The Bully
Free Classroom. The book has sold over 90,000 copies
and has been adopted by schools and systems/districts all
over the United States.
The Bully Free Classroom won
the 2001 Teacher’s Choice Award given by
Learning Magazine. Dr. Beane is known for his powerful, unique
and practical prevention and intervention strategies. He and
material from his book were featured in national publications
such as Time for Kids (a Time Magazine publication sent to
3 million teachers and children); Newsweek for Teens; USA Today;
the Washington Post; the Boston Sunday Globe; and several other
national magazines and journals (i.e., Middle Ground, The National
PTA Magazine, and NEA Today). He has also made numerous television
appearances. His anti-bullying strategies are community and
district centered, peer centered, parent centered, professional
centered, and child centered.
Dr. Beane has conducted workshops and given presentations for
school systems and agencies across the United States. He also
has presented at numerous state and national conferences for
teachers, counselors, and psychologists, and he has appeared
on several national radio shows, such as The Parent’s
Journal. Dr. Beane has also published over 30 articles in
journals (Child Psychiatry & Human Development, Educational
Horizons, etc.) and 2 book chapters (Children of Trauma, etc.)
addressing peer victimization. His interesting and highly
interactive workshops and presentations stir the emotions
of the participants and provide practical and useful information
through a variety of activities and touching scenes from well-known
films/movies and bullying scenes. |
